Journey to Global Game Jam

Student Organization - Social/Recreational, Interest/Affinity

Contact: Jack Gaskins

Mission
The College of Southern Maryland Velocity Center Makerspace is hosting the Global Game Jam (https://www.globalgamejam.org) in January 2027! For the uninitiated, a game jam is an event in which you must create a game within a limited time period, given a prompt or theme. There is no barrier to entry here; you don't have to be a software engineer to make a game that works!

Before we get to the Global Game Jam, we want to show you what game jamming is all about! This group will cover all events leading up to and including the Global Game Jam, such as:

• Hawkland Gaming Festival -> https://www.csmd.edu/hawkland
• Open Play -> Play board games and video games on the big screen
• Sandbox Social -> Tinker with game design and development in a no-stakes environment
• Mini Game Jam -> Try your hand at creating a game design and pitch based on a prompt
• Group Planning Mixer -> Network and form groups in preparation for Global Game Jam
• Global Game Jam Launch -> Get the theme and start the real game jam
• Open Game Studio -> Use Makerspace resources and Velocity Center spaces to build your game
• Global Game Jam Winner Ceremony -> Receive awards for winning games
