The College of Southern Maryland Velocity Center Makerspace is hosting the Global Game Jam (https://www.globalgamejam.org) in January 2027! For the uninitiated, a game jam is an event in which you must create a game within a limited time period, given a prompt or theme. There is no barrier to entry here; you don't have to be a software engineer to make a game that works!

Before we get to the Global Game Jam, we want to show you what game jamming is all about! This group will cover all events leading up to and including the Global Game Jam, such as:

• Hawkland Gaming Festival -> https://www.csmd.edu/hawkland
• Open Play -> Play board games and video games on the big screen
• Sandbox Social -> Tinker with game design and development in a no-stakes environment
• Mini Game Jam -> Try your hand at creating a game design and pitch based on a prompt
• Group Planning Mixer -> Network and form groups in preparation for Global Game Jam

The Models of Excellence Program was established at the College of Southern Maryland in September 2013, as a college-wide initiative to improve the recruitment, success, retention, graduation, and transfer rates of students who enter as first-time, full- or part-time students at the college. The program is designed to empower students to meet their academic and professional goals and provide an array of services meant to increase student engagement, as well as encourage community-building among all participants. By partnering with offices throughout Student Excellence and Success and Academic Affairs, the program helps students map out a route to reach their academic, personal, and professional goals; develop leadership skills; and achieve educational success.
